Celebration of the Practice of Pharmacy

The month of October was American Pharmacists Month sponsored by APhA and October 16-22 was National Hospital and Health-System Pharmacy Week sponsored by ASHP.  These celebrations were created to acknowledge the invaluable contributions that pharmacists and technicians make in the lives of our patients.  Did you or your Chapter participate in either event?  How do you celebrate the Profession of Pharmacy?     What are some every day things you do that help patients realize the valuable contribution pharmacists can make in their lives?

Executive Committee Meeting

I spent this entire past weekend getting to know our new Executive Committee a bit better.

We held a retreat here at the Central Office in Dallas to discuss many pressing matters before the Executive Committee.

I had the members come to my house Friday evening for dinner in an effort to get to know them better in a more relaxed and casual setting. You would be surprised how much easier it is to get to know someone away from "work".

No new surprises, just a better appreciation of how hard they all work and their level of commitment to Kappa Psi. They all are dedicated to the betterment of our brotherhood and to the long term success of Kappa Psi. They made hard decisions by keeping the vision of a better Kappa Psi in the fore front.

Cooperation and compromise were the words that come to mind when I looked back at the proceedings. It was a long and stressful day but when it was over, all agreed that we have made a better Kappa Psi for now and the future.

In a few weeks you will see the fruits of their labors begin to be revealed and I am sure once you have seen the results you will agree with me that the fraternity is headed for greater things. I was proud of them and I think each of you should be proud of them also.

So if you get a minute send them an email and thank them for the good work they do for Kappa Psi.

Kappa Psi Through and Through

Hi everyone. The last province meetings of this year will be over soon, and I hope that everyone that has been able to attend these meetings over the last year have found them enjoyable, with new bonds created, old bonds maintained, and their horizons expanded. I would encourage as many of you as possible to try to participate in events that are outside of your chapters and provinces. I believe that when you do, you truly see that Kappa Psi is all over the place. Many chapters are now in the middle of pledging or are about to finish. I hope that those you initiate will be a boon to your chapter, and will worthy of being our Brothers for life.
The Collegiate Development Committee is currently working on an Officer Training Guide that will hopefully help in building strong leadership in the chapters. Soon after we also hope to put out a document that will allow chapters to review ideas for which they can raise funds for their chapters. I also know the Pledge Development Committee is hard at work trying to determine what key aspects are most important in the pledging process. That's all for now. I wish you all well and the best in your endeavors.

Respectfully submitted,
Johnny Wong

Graduate Relations

My brothers,

I am still emotionally charged from the wonderful time we all had in San Francisco. I had an opportunity to have a mini reunion with some of the Province III brothers during conclave in Chapel Hill, and the willingness to serve is infectious! I am excited about the group of colligiates we have and am looking forward to seeing these brothers as graduate brothers. Thanks for the hospitality Province III.  On behalf of the executive committee I'd like to tell you that we are working hard to represent the needs of the fraternity. As I get ready for Province 1, I'd like to let you know that I am available for all of your fraternal needs. Currently, we have 2 groups appointed to serve you- the Graduate Development Committee and the Graduate Chapter Task Force. If you have any thoughts on how to improve graduate brother involvement or any thoughts on the criteria for the incorporation new graduate chapters in the fraternity, please do not hesitate to contact me at hpmarcelin@gmail.com. Before I sign off, I would like to ask you a couple of questions regarding graduate relations. Collegiates- what is the one thing you wish graduate brothers did more of and what things can we do as brothers to ensure that Kappa Psi is not only for college but it is for LIFE? Graduates- what can we do to make sure we are replacing ourselves when we transition from a collegiate brother to a graduate brother and continue to become active as a graduate brother? Let's blog about it. Well, I am off to Boston! I hope all is well and please let me know how I can be of service! Let's keep in touch.

2011 Ritual Survey

The 2011-2013 Ritual Committee is facilitating a Ritual survey at all fall Province Assembly and Conclave meetings.  The actual survey is very short to complete and will assess basic Ritual exercise competencies.  The committee will also be verifying GCD addresses to ensure that all Collegiate and Graduate Chapters receive the new Graduation exercise.  Each Chapter's assistance in filling out the surveys and verifying GCD information is greatly appreciated!  We are looking to provide a Ritual workshop at the spring Province meetings with the focus on the new exercise.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please feel free to email me at Lradha15@gmail.com.  I look forward to seeing many of you at this semester's Province meetings!

Latha Radhakrishnan

Share your history!

Hi all! One of the things the history committee is working on during this term is finding and asking chapters to inventory items of historical significance. What is historical significance? That could be a ritual book that doesn’t say kappa psi on the cover, but is only a faded color, the signatures on a charter for a chapter, an item with kappa psi that has hung on the chapter house wall for as long as anybody can remember. These are just a few suggestions at what to look for. Everyone of our chapters has something unique they bring to Kappa Psi and the history committee wants to see it! That way we can share it with others so they too can marvel at the different ways our chapters celebrate industry, sobriety, fellowship and high ideals. Take pictures or video and send them to me at mlac3543@gmail.com
I look forward to seeing some great things!

Share your successful Rush ideas!

I know that many of our Chapters rush in the Fall.  Do you have an event that is always a huge success?  How do you get to know the potential new members?  Share your ideas with other Chapters by writing about them in The Mask, on our Facebook Page, or in the comments on the blog.

Templates for Local Ordinances

Brothers,

I have received several inquiries from Chapters who wish to update their Local Ordinances regarding a standard template. I would like to inform you all, that the Legislative Committee is working hard on creating a template for the Uniform Collegiate Chapter, Uniform Graduate Chapter, and the Uniform Province By-Laws. These templates will assist Chapters in creating or updating their Local Ordinances in a simple word document or template. Their will be two versions. One version will be compatible with Microsoft Office 2007, and will be in a .dotx format to allow for simple drop-down menu form, that will streamline the creation of By-Laws. The other version will be compatible with other releases of Microsoft Office and Mac Pages. This version will be a fill in the blank type form. Both of these forms will have a set of instructions associated with them. The Legislative Committee is planning on releasing these templates by the end of the Fall Semester.

Professional Fraternity Association Meeting

Hello!
Several Brothers are attending the Professional Fraternity Association (PFA) meeting in San Mateo, California this week.  PFA was created in 1978 via a merger of the Professional Interfraternity Conference and the Professional Panhellenic Association and is comprised of roughly 30 professional fraternities and sororities.

As you know, our Brothers and Chapters have been honored by PFA in the past for their accomplishments. This year Brother Eric Gupta received Volunteer of the Year and Epsilon Gamma won the award for Outstanding Professional Program.  Kappa Psi is very proud of our Brothers and we look to continue our tradition of taking home awards at PFA in 2012!

While at the meeting, we have the opportunity to meet with representatives from major professional fraternities and sororities and gain insight to the challenges they are facing on campus.  We will also attend workshops on new technology, recruitment, and fundraising.  In the past we have worked hard to bring everything we learn while at PFA back to the Fraternity to make it better.

You can learn more about PFA at their website www.professionalfraternity.org.

Committee Interest

I have been extremely impressed at the amount of Brothers who want to be active on an International Committee.  Over 175 Brothers have expressed their desire to serve the Fraternity.  I am currently attempting to place as many as possible on a committee that will fit their interests.  The committee chairs are being contacted first and then the committee members will be emailed.  I hope to have all appointment letters sent out by September 1st.

I look forward to working with everyone over the next two years.
